Kamika Ekadashi Vrat Katha

Once, Pandava King Yudhishthira asked Lord Shri Krushna to explain to him the significance of observing a vart on Shravana, Krushna Paksha Ekadashi. Therefore, Lord Krushna narrated the conversation between Lord Brahma and his son, Devarshi Narada Muni on the importance of observing the Kamika Ekadashi vrat.

When Narada Muni, an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu, wanted to know the benefits of keeping the vrat, Lord Brahma said that those who are guilty of doing misdeeds and wish to seek mercy shall be forgiven by the Lord. Moreover, they will get riddance from the guilt of sinning, and this will, in turn, help in evolving as better human beings.

As Lord Brahma continues to explain the significance of Kamika Ekadashi, he says that keeping a fast on this day is equal to taking a bath in the sacred waters of the Ganga. He also reveals how a person can reap the benefits of visiting Kashi by keeping a vrat on Kamika Ekadashi. Therefore, by following a vrat, maintaining celibacy and doing penance on this day, a person can rid himself of all the wrongs he has committed in his life. It is like rinsing oneself to remove all the dirt from the skin that has accumulated over the years.

Lord Brahma reveals that by offering the sacred Tulsi to Lord Vishnu, one can seek his blessings. Nonetheless, a vrati must have a clean heart devoid of anger, lust, greed, or pride. Therefore, a vrat kept with utmost faith and sincere devotion shall bear abundant fruits.
